10/29/07 - THE WIND BLOWS

I am convinced that we are living in a very special day with the Lord of Hosts. This is a point in eternity where we find our God unveiling Himself in a greater measure to man. We must be certain that we don't just hear Him and think we are hearing it thunder. May we all have ears to hear what the Spirit of the Living God is saying to each one of us.

We find Jesus sharing with the crowds about his cousin John one day and telling them that they had gone out into the wilderness to observe a reed being swayed by the wind. The wind of the Spirit is awesome. Glory! Jesus proclaims an earth shattering statement about John the Baptist one day and this statement has a direct bearing on you personally.

"Truly, I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." (Matthew 11:11)

Let us think for a moment on what we are hearing our King say about his cousin and you. Just think about what the Bible has to say about our heroes of faith. The Bible is full of testimonies of men and women who did mighty exploits for God. I am sure there are some of these stories that are dear to you. I am always moved with the story of David and Goliath. One moment we see this young shepherd and the next moment he is changed into a giant killer.

Jesus is comparing John the Baptist with all of these giants of faith and telling us that he is the greatest and then throws the little word "yet" at us. The message that Jesus came preaching was the gospel or good news of the kingdom of God. With this message we find our God telling us that if we are born from above we are greater than John the Baptist, or Abraham, or King David or on and on. Aren't you glad he added the word "least" in this statement?

"The wind blows (breathes) where it will; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)
