03/01/07 - WONDERFUL PEACE

There is always a place for discussion concerning a lot of issues that we face in our lives on this short journey here on earth. Peace is one of the bedrock issues that we can all agree on that our God wants to give to us on a daily basis. We might not agree on whether all should have plenty of money or all should be walking in health but peace is for everyone. Our old friend, brother Paul, gives us some major insights on how we might have peace, even to the degree that it goes beyond our understanding.

"Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say, rejoice! Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the PEACE OF GOD, shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and see in me, practice these things; and the GOD OF PEACE shall be with you." (Philippians 4:4-9)

I had breakfast yesterday with a friend who is discovering the difference between correct theology and practical living theology. I continue to be amazed at how many folks know scripture, even to the point of being able to quote whole chapters, and yet have no living relationship with the author in their everyday walk. It is the heart's desire of our God to know us on a very intimate basis and to infuse us with His resurrection life. This friend is beginning to recognize the voice of God and to allow faith to come forth.

I had told this man months ago that if he chose to walk by faith he would discover that a real walk of faith is like walking on the edge of disaster many times. A daily walk in the Spirit is one that is not dependent on what we can see or touch, but is dependent on trusting an invisible God that speaks to us most of the time in a still small voice. When this man made the decision to know God in a very personable way he began to see the Lord knocking all of his man made props out from under him. Our God is a jealous God.

"The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace. Because he trusts in Thee. Trust in the Lord forever. For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock." (Isaiah 26:3-4)

In both of these passages we see that it is vitally important on how we think. Both Paul and Isaiah are telling us that we can have perfect peace if we are thinking right. The Lord showed me years ago that He is more than willing to help us with our thinking if we ask for His help. Jesus told us that He was going to the Father and was going to send us the Helper. Glory! Again, we can have the correct theology on this and still not have the practical outliving. Lord help us!

What the Lord spoke to me in this matter is that if I wanted His help, He would keep a watch on my tongue and convict me when I said anything that would hinder my mind from being fixed on Jesus and then He showed me later on that if I desired He would even speak to me before I said anything wrong. What an awesome God that is able to stop us before we start. Glory!

How does this all happen? By our humbling ourselves before our loving God and asking Him. He has promised us that He will not turn away a broken and contrite spirit. Lord, I am asking you to help each of us today in our pursuit of You. Speak to us when we are about to speak or even think anything that will not produce your peace. We give you praise and thanksgiving for being a God that has provided everything we need for life and peace. Amen and Amen!
